Love is in the air and this week on Let’s Get Writing as I welcome Claire Wilkshire.
In this episode we dive into her most recent book, The Love Olympics, a jubilant, funny and real collection of short fiction set in St. John’s, NL. All about the various forms of love — the way love grips us, shakes us, releases or envelops us — these smart, witty, funny, warm and surprising stories will send Cupid’s arrow right into your heart!
Claire’s collection of short stories, The Love Olympics, was released in October 2021 and her novel, Maxine, in March 2013, both by Breakwater Books. Her stories, book reviews, and articles have appeared in a variety of journals and anthologies. Since January 2021, Claire has been senior editor at Breakwater Books. (As a result, she now works with very few private clients.)
Dr. Claire Wilkshire is an experienced editor, teacher, translator, and writer.
Since establishing her business in 2006, Claire has edited major projects such as the reports of the Newfoundland and Labrador Electoral Districts Boundaries Commission, the Independent Statutory Review Committee (ATIPPA), the Offshore Helicopter Safety Inquiry, and the Commission of Inquiry into Hormone Receptor Testing. Her editing clients have also included the Canadian government and several provincial government departments, the C-NLOPB, e-learning specialists, insurers, writers, musicians, and professors and graduate students working at universities in Canada and internationally.
As a translator, Claire has worked primarily on medical documents and compensation claims.
Claire taught French and English at Memorial University for fifteen years before starting her business. She has taught adults in both languages, individually and in groups, in academic, corporate, and community settings.
